Louis's Story
Jul-Aug 08: The next course in Lindy Hop begins for this eight week period! Each Monday and Thursday night I have been attending classes to get a good aerobic workout. Now that the summer is here, I'll forsake the Thursday night classes for plays, musicals and concerts on Thursday and Saturday nights! Also, seems I've agreed to continue teaching beginner East Coast Swing (hand dancing) on Friday nights at a local dance studio! Oh, well, I never said I was smart! Last week on 24 June I caught George Benson's concert at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts - he went non-stop with no break or intermission! The first half was a tribute to Nat King Cole and the second half was George's party!!! Great musicianship!
May-Jun 08: I will be in Nice, France for two weeks at Alliance Francaise to brush up on my French (or lack of French). Then I return to continue teaching basic beginner East Coast Swing dance at 'Dance With Me' studio in Herndon, VA. I'm also taking dance classes in Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing and a variety of other dances. Metro DC is a good area for dance every night and every type of dancing!
May 08: In May 08 I began to work with a friend in Tampa to advertise in Mexico good deals on Florida real estate for sale...condos, apartments, housing - all as vacation homes for buyers in South America and Europe.
JAN 08: Just back from Dec-Jan in Europe. I wanted to catch some old memories during the holidays, so I hopped aboard an Iceland International Airways flight and flew to Reykjavik, Iceland for a day of hanging out before going on to London for a week. My absolu...Expand for more
te sole purpose in going to London is to have Indian food without having to make the longer trek to India itself! Outside of India, England is the place to get the right spices and blends. Then there's the British pantomime which starts every year on Boxing Day (26 Dec). This year was Jack and the Beanstalk! Quite funny when the principle dame is a guy and vice versa. Jack's mother was a well known British comedian and he was quite good at entertaining the kids (its a family show). After taking in the fireworks along the River Thames at New Year's Eve, I flew to Vienna, Austria for another week and spent it studying Viennese architecture at the Hofburg, the Opera House, the Wien Prater and Stephansplatz on Kartner Strasse. (I should point out that the place for Wienerschnitzel is the restaurant Figlmuller in the city center.) After Vienna I went back to London to catch the swing band, The Jive Aces, which performs yellow zoot suits and plays the kind of music reminiscent of Harlem, NY in the 40's-50's. Two days after getting back to the USofA I had the flu and stayed home from all of my retirement activity (sleep) to get over Nyquil/Dayquil procedure. All done now and I'm back to helping out at a local high school giving talks on the importance of learning second languages and other cultures. Things are back to normal and I'm back to nightly dance classes in lindy hop, swing, rumba and waltz. Over the next few months I'll be visiting my aunt in Seattle, friends in Los Angeles, friends in Tampa, and my sisters in New Orleans. Hope to run into some BTW classmates in the process! Ciao!
